Sotu the Traveller - Daydreams (2007)

Press Release:
In his early twenties, Sotu The Traveller was one of the youngest producers to release a full-fledged EP. Born in Haarlem, The Netherlands, he was in touch with music at an early stage in his life and decided to take on lessons in playing keys. His Turkish roots led him to replay what his peers played; both traditional and popular Turkish music. He went on to learn how to play (bass-) guitar and played in several live hiphop and reggae bands. Still in the middle of his teens he hooked up with someone who showed him the basics of creating beats using computer based applications, and from there on things evolved real fast.

Being a quick learner, the result turned out to be heartfelt, jazzy and soulful yet rough around the edges. Besides working with a gang of different artists from Holland, he also worked on various commercial projects for major companies. Sotu, however, doesn´t feel limited to the country he lives in.

He has worked (and still does) with many artists from NYC to Istanbul, but of course also collaborates with Dutch likeminds. Two trips to NYC led to the completion of some soulful material, and with help from Gregg Green, Maya Azucena, Hicoup and J.Keys, these international journeys ended up on his debut EP Daydreams.

His organic sound will expand as he grows older and moves forward with other projects. Besides his solo album, one of those projects is the 08Bar compilation album, which is an offspring of the 08Bar parties in Amsterdam where aspiring producers are given the opportunity to shine by playing beats in the club. Also, he has ongoing collaborations with various MC´s and producers in Holland and the USA. With his capabilities of spotting samples and playing instruments, Sotu has no concerns for the future.

Word of Advice

We don't upload any of the links in this blog because, their are too many floating around anyway, and it's a waste of time. Some do it for points, while some do it for money. Well we don't do it that way here, as long as we can share and let you know what's cracking with those albums we're happy. These guys don't get a lot of exposure, and for damn sure some of them will never graze the mainstream air wave. By the way not sure if anyone actually read this stuff, but if you made it this far, The Beat Dangler thanks you.
