Ghost (Simon Williamson) produces the kind of smoke-filled-room instrumental hip-hop that owes equally to fellow Brits like RJD2 and Bonobo, as it does to its US counterparts like DJ Shadow and Blockhead. Freedom Of Thought is basically part one of an album-of-the-same-name, which is as yet unreleased here, but is available in Japan. Getting to the music, the booming soulful strings of Feel Pain and psychedelic rush of Way You Feel both pin down Williamson’s adeptness at producing big, enthralling instrumental tracks with a bohemian flavour, while S’All Good featuring Finale, and Elevate Remix featuring Jehst, show he is still more than capable of making beats for MCs. The latter in particular is an stirring slice of mystical boom-bap. Freedom Of Thought retains the night-time, street-stalking feel of 2008’s Seldom Seen Often Heard, and compounds Williamson’s place at the heart of the UK’s “musical” hip-hop celebrity.

Dungen - Ta Det Lungt

Despite the constant influx of catchphrase-coordinated marketing campaigns that would lead you to believe that life-affirming records are released daily, it's forever rare to stumble upon one as consistently mind-blowing and aesthetically far-reaching as Dungen's Ta Det Lugnt. Because of this scarcity, when such an unexpected (and immediate) discovery does take place, it's like being struck by indescribable melodic lightning: Unlike discs that warrant facile disses or mediocre passing grades, the countless reasons for its boundless successes remain ineffable and shadowy despite repeat late-night close-listening sessions.

Dumbfounded - Fun With Dumb (2009)

I have to admit, the man has lyrics, but the production is just sub-par. He should have picked out his singles wisely, and just hit the mainstream with that. His style matches, that of the likes of J-Zone. I would highly suggest "dumbfounded" calling up J-zone himself, for the next production of his next album...

Beat Dangler's Special Blend

Their was a time when creating a beat means gathering a community of creatives, when sampling was writing your thoughts into paper, or plucking your way through a melody. A time where some of artists today jack their beats from.

Lee Fields & The Expressions - My World, dropping June 2

Lee Fields is a bona-fide, 100%, unadulterated, pure, gut-bucket soul singer. While the crate-digging funk and soul community bestowed "legendary" status upon him due to his undeniably solid series of rare 7" singles (and one LP) recorded and released on his own independent labels in the 70s, he's never been one to sit in a dusty corner. New York label/production team Truth & Soul, are ready to bring him to light with a brand new album of beat-heavy, deep soul ballads that will show soul-revivalists the world over what real soul is.

Do not call

Please use the following if contacted by a telemarketer.

love,

ze

1. Use a husky, dirty phone sex voice but ask normal questions about the proposed offer.
“Is it a low interest rate? mmmmm…I like low interest rates…really low…”
2. In an outrageously excited tone: “Thank god you called!!!” Explain that an online psychic told you that your future lover would randomly call disguised as an asshole.
3. Say you are hard of hearing and see how loud they will shout into the phone.
4. Allow the telemarketer to fully explain his offer. When he is finished explain that his company hired you to randomly spot check telemarketers on their performance. Tell him that he did a good job overall, but that he is a bit monotone and needs to fluctuate his tone of voice more to sound convincing. He also should pause longer between sentences, and more clearly pronounce the letter “s”. Tell him you won’t report him if he repeats his speech to you with the appropriate corrections. Repeat.
5. Be incredibly polite as they explain their offer, but make farting noises once in a while and ask whether there is something wrong with the connection.
6. In an annoyed tone cut the telemarketer off mid sentence : “Dan, stop screwing around…we have to get rid of this body fast, did you find a chainsaw or not?”
7. “Congratulations! You’re the 100th caller on the (insert local radio station) Sweet Vacation Giveaway Blast Marathon. You’ve just won a pair of tickets to Negril, Jamaica and the use of Sean Paul’s celebrity vacation house.” Take down her address and send her all of your L.L.Bean catalogues for the rest of your life...after you use them as liner for your cat’s litter box.
8. Flirt.
9. Keep repeating, “I knew you were going to say that…”
10. Stutter on a syllable of an obvious word in a sentence… see how long it takes before he completes the phrase. When he does, get upset, and say “That really hurts my fee…fee… fee… fee…feel…fee… fee… fee…” ad infinitum.
11. Pee on the phone while he’s talking.
12. Mid pitch, stop him and complement him on his wonderful voice. Explain that you are a voiceover scout and might have a breakthrough commercial job for him. Ask if he wouldn’t mind doing a quick test. Ask him to say in a deep husky voice “May cause dizziness, diarrhea, vomiting and shortness of breath. A small number of participants in a recent clinical trial experienced weight loss, irregular clotting, abnormally frequent and/or painful urination and hair loss. Results may vary”
13. Ask how much it would take to get him to stop working as a telemarketer. Start at $1000. Say you are dead serious.
14. Ask if he will be your friend if you sign up.
15. Tie obscure facts about Barbara Streisand to everything thing he says,, “2.3% interest rate? oh my…did you know Barbara was 23 when she filmed Funny Girl…”
16. Every few minutes repeat, “You’re going to have to bear with me, I have a slight short term memory loss problem…who is this again?”
17. “Oh my god, I used to have your job…does Bob still work there (repeat names until you find a match)…which building are you in?” Escalate coincidence until you both realize that you sat in the same chair. Explain that you had to quit work when your genitals mysteriously vanished.
18. Regardless of the offer tell him you’ll take 7. If he asks what you mean say he drives a hard bargain and you’ll take 9, but that’s as far as you’ll go.
19. Every half-minute ask him to hold and pretend to scream at your invalid mother. “You want to use the bathroom??? Well stop whining and get up out of the wheelchair for a change. You just sit there and think about that for a while, mother. Can’t you see I’m on the damn phone?”
20. Forgive him. Tell him you did. Over and over again, until he hangs up. Then secretly take it back.

Futuristic Honda Fuzo Hover Concept Car Design

Futuristic Honda Fuzo Hover Concept Car Design:

We have always heard and fantasized that we will have flying cars in future which will take us to the skies. Now, it appears that time is quite near. Designer John Mahieddine has build a concept design for Honda which is a hover car.

Named as ‘Honda Fuzo‘, the car is vertical take off and landing VTOL hover car which can speed upto 350 mph. It has four high powered turbines for fast speed and horizontal flight. It has two joystick controls for speed, thrust and steering.

The car is still concept design, just in the mind of designer and away from the production process. It has two joysticks on either side of the driver’s seat on the armrests. Left joystick functions to spin the car on its axis and right joysticks enables to mange tilt and direction. Power and brake controlling pedals are present on the floor.

It has two safety systems to keep it safe from any damage or accident. One, Fly-by-Wire system that functions via GPS and keeps cars from hitting each other. Two, Airbags that open inside and outside to protect the driver, the car and any person in front of the car in an air collision.

And if you don’t feel the whole hovering thing, then you can drive on the ground with the retractable wheels. It is made of carbon fibre, Kevlar, and carbon nano-tubes. The canopy give comfort to the driver and two passengers.

Overall, it is a dream car and I would definitely love to get my hands on it if it becomes a reality. It gives a nostalgia of futuristic cars from computer games and Oh yeah also resembles cars from star trek.

CLAUDIO MEDEIROS , VICTOR M & FRIENDS - ROTATION

Here is a another "underratted" cat, in the game!!

Claudio Madeiros for Nucleus USA from 1975.
Killer Brazilian funky fusion set on an obscure little label out of San Francisco.
Big tune on this is "Soar" but rest is just as good with that lovely bubbling clavinet sound on most of the tunes. If you like early 70s Azymuth,Donato,Valle and the like you'll love this.
Dusty Groove review(where it's now unavailable):
A fantastic batch of jazzy grooves featuring Claudio Medeiros and Victor M of the group Made In Brasil, plus other associates from the Bay Area fusion scene of the 70s! The record's got a strong mix of mellow tunes and funkier ones with touches of Brazilian jazz and CTI fusion swirled together in a San Francisco sunny mode. The set includes the incredible groover "Soar", which has nice moog bubbling through a jazzy midtempo groove and features many other great tunes like "Cachaca", "Generous", "Green Olives", "Grape Woman", and "Rotation"

A true veteran of the UK electronic scene, Luke Vibert has, in the last few years, finally gained the recognition he deserves. His first dispatches saw him go from the ambient textures of his debut album as Wagon Christ to a much more acute and varied sound, infused with hip hop, soul, electro, techno, acid house and drum'n'bass. Distilled under a variety of pseudonyms (Wagon Christ, Plug, Kerrier District, Amen Andrews, Spac Hand Luke to name but a few) these have progressively become the staple diet for his fans. Yet, it took for the man to focus on one of his until-then somewhat overlooked strengths, acid, with his monumental YosepH (Warp, 2003) for the world, or at least electronic followers, to finally take stock and listen, now he's back to his hip hop roots using samples from soul, jazz and reggae, Enjoy!

Dollar ReDe$ign Project

The American Dollar has not truly been redesigned since about the 1930s. The Dollar ReDe$ign Project is your opportunity to theoretically ‘change’ that. Yes, technically there are many limitations and complications when it comes to bank note design, but if the Swiss can do it on a regular basis, why can’t we North Americans too?The Dollar Redesign Project

There are only a few designs on there at the moment, some a bit jokey, but of the serious ideas I quite like the ones in the first set below. I can’t see any notes that deviate too far from the originals being successful, as there are so many cultural and linguistic associations with the ol’ greenback; it may seem tediously conservative, but notes that aren’t predominantly green just won’t feel like dollars. I hope the designs go further than the ‘stick a guilloche on it and call it a banknote’ idea - guilloches are beautiful things - I wrote about them before, here - but it takes more than a few of those to make a successful banknote.

Stilla-Mode - Lovexperiance 2009

Look at that guy in the middle in last pic, looks like ELM!

"Stilla-mode" is a Japanese Hiphop unit, Mic(2mo'key), Beatbox(M-oto), and Beatmaker(Masacote). Our music is based on 90's Hiphop golden era, when Gangstarr says "Jazz thing", A Tribe Called Quest was on "Award tour", and Pete Rock & CL Smooth had "Lots of Lovin'".Much Jazz, Soul, and Funk..... but sound itself, like no others. We take you back to the time when Hiphop was real "Hiphop".....

Pseudo Slang - Broke and Copasetic Feat. Vinia Mojica

Pseudo Slang, a Buffalo, New York based hip-hop duo comprised of rapper Emcee Sick, of the crewXtracts Of Slang, and producer Tone Atlas, of the crew Pseudo Intellectuals, are proud to announce the release of their new studio LP. Broke & Copasetic” - the album’s lead single - features R&B/new soul songstress Vinia Mojica whom we all have been waiting for to drop something new ever since her “Black & Blue” bootleg (with productions by Hi-Tek, DJ Spinna & Ge-0logy). Their first single sounds like hiphop used to sound when I was still into vinyl. I guess that’s a big compliment coming from me nowadays so ya’ll keep an eye out for Pseudo Slang’s new album “We’ll Keep Looking” when it drops June 2nd via Fat Beats Records.

Word of Advice

We don't upload any of the links in this blog because, their are too many floating around anyway, and it's a waste of time. Some do it for points, while some do it for money. Well we don't do it that way here, as long as we can share and let you know what's cracking with those albums we're happy. These guys don't get a lot of exposure, and for damn sure some of them will never graze the mainstream air wave. By the way not sure if anyone actually read this stuff, but if you made it this far, The Beat Dangler thanks you.
